Atlanta Dancers And Actors Are Swinging The Senate

“Swinging the Senate,” a PSA to promote voting during the January 5th, 2021 Georgia Senate run-off, was created by Axel Roldos, a dancer at Atlanta’s “Swinging Richard’s.”

“It’s not possible to overstate the importance of this election. Because Georgia is in a unique and historic position to decide how cooperative Congress is going to be for the first half of President-Elect Joe Biden’s term with this double runoff. There are calls for comprehensive, immediate relief as the well off are doing even better while so many are being left behind in this pandemic. Calls social equity reforms in the justice and finance systems for example, calls to address climate change as we’re the only country to not have committed to the Paris Accords. All of this and so much more is on the ballot. This race looks like could shape up to be really close and I just felt a personal responsibility to do everything I could to advocate for democracy, because every vote counts, and it could make all the difference,” said Roldos.

Roldos, a resident of Atlanta, lost his job at the beginning of the pandemic and currently works for the Georgia Department of Health, assisting in COVID education and testing.

The PSA was filmed at B.J. Roosters in Atlanta and features local actors and dancers from Swinging Richard’s and edited by Jasun Mark.

“Swinging the Senate” is a love letter to the incredible “Get Your Booty to the Poll” PSA creating by Paul Fox, Ashley Bedford, and Angela Barnes. That PSA was pivotal to many getting a lot of Georgians out to vote for the first time and the website they created contains invaluable information about voting rights and issues that are important to voters,” said Chad Darnell, the writer and director of the spot. “Our cheeky little PSA is a fan letter to their work and supporting their cause. And frankly, would you rather watch another PSA with strippers or mudslinging politicians? It ain’t The Crown.”

Early voting in Georgia begins December 14, 2021. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is December 31, 2020.
