It’s weird no one addresses the elephant in the room. He didn’t kill himself because he didn’t have anyone to talk to or because he couldn’t get a pack of cigarettes or because he failed a high school exam. The most likely cause of his death was his occupation…????. Every few months another one drops. I’m not suggesting anything be done in particular, but it’s really annoying when people ignore the obvious…

I actually didn’t say anything negative at all. I simply noted that people in this line of work are clearly committing suicide more than people in other types of work. That’s not a moral judgment on anything. That’s the acknowledgement of objective fact. Maybe instead of being so definsive, you should read what I actually wrote. I clearly said that I wasn’t making a suggestion on what should be done. It has to be addressed. I’m not sure whether more people who or depressed turn to porn or whether porn makes someone more depressed, or both, but there seems to be some connection between the job and suicide. Maybe requiring studios to offer free counseling services? I can’t be the only one noticing this… I’m happy they would read this. Hopefully they can demand better from their employers who benefit without us hearing about *them* committing suicide.

Here are some facts and porn or sex workers are not anywhere on the list: NEW YORK – Manual laborers in the U.S. who tend to work in isolation and who face unsteady employment have the highest rate of suicide, according to a broad federal study.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that farmers, lumberjacks and fishermen kill themselves most often. High rates were also seen in carpenters, miners, electricians and people who work in construction. Mechanics were close behind, according to the study, which showed enormous differences of suicide rates across jobs.
Dentists, doctors and other health care professionals had an 80 percent lower suicide rate than the farmers, fishermen and lumberjacks. The lowest rate was in teachers, educators and librarians.

I seriously doubt the center for disease control and prevention factored porn in the line of professions they studied, given the simple fact that sex workers are not registered or unionized. and i’d imagine gay porn industry provides one of the most unsteady employments one could think of.

It’s quite normal for all of us to try to make sense of all this, to understand why Casey made this choice. However, it is inappropriate for us to speculate in a way that is demeaning or disrespectful to Casey in any way. I would venture to say that no one commenting in this stream has firsthand knowledge of Mr. Jacks’ private life. The truth is that we will never know the demons with which he struggled. It’s just tragic. Our culture assigns an ever-increasing high value to youth, beauty, and physicality. This is especially true in the gay subculture. It’s fun when it is you having your time as one of the young and the beautiful. But we all know that this time is fleeting. That we grow older. Our looks harden and hollow. Our bodies change. No matter how hard we try. We cannot avoid the effects of aging. Yes, there are many gifts to growing older. However, society signals to us that we aren’t as valuable. That somehow we aren’t as relevant as we once were. In the gay world, this is even more significant. Imagine being an adult film star in the 2020s. Their entire identity is based upon temporary, completely superficial physical qualities. I’m not saying that this was one of Casey’s demons. But it sure could have been. At some point, everyone in the adult film industry (in real life too!) must face this inconvenient truth. I know that my own experience as a gay man has been one of self-deprecation that eventually leads to self-discovery. Isn’t that sad? I beat the crap out of myself for aging, something over which I have no control! Then eventually I will become enlightened about it. And I’ll tell you…The bitch in my head is merciless! I feel sure I am not only one to torture myself in such a manner. In order to survive, we must find the strength within to assign our value to other, more resilient pieces of who we are. We must forge a new, more realistic identity for ourselves. I am certain this is amplified exponentially for those in the porn industry. The pain of thinking “I’m no longer attractive, no longer relevant” is really overwhelming at times. At first, we all fight against it, turning to the latest pill, potion, program, and procedure. I even considered dying my pubic hair at one point. We desperately cling to the younger version of ourselves in any way that we can. Usually, all we wind up doing is calling attention to the parts of ourselves that we wanted to hide or deny in the first place. If there’s anything we can do in honor of Casey’s beautiful life. It is affirming the inherent worth and value in ourselves and each other no matter our age or appearance. I have no idea how we can do this for those in the adult film industry. But we had better figure it out. They have brought us so much pleasure during their time in the spotlight. Seems to me that we have an obligation to see them through. Peace.
