Actually since so many young gay men are being infected, I do believe it is a legitimate question.
Anyone who is barebacking is most likely HIV positive, or will be soon.
It is sad that we think so little of ourselves and each other that we allow and promote barebacking.
If you’re a bottom, just don’t do it without a condom for the top. It’s simple.

Firstly, one’s HIV status is definitely an individual’s own business as well as the business of their sexual partners. But when you put yourself in the public eye and are a sexual role model, and let’s be honest with ourselves, many young gays with little sexual experience look to porn for guidance, there needs to be a certain level of social responsibility in our community, because HIV infections are rising, and that’s not inconsequential.
Fact is young gay guys are not being educated about HIV awareness like we once were in the 80s and 90s. I have a friend who is a Dr. at an HIV clinic and she says young gay guys just aren’t afraid of it. And that’s sad. Because while it’s no longer a death sentence, HIV is still a life sentence.
And a young gay guy who reads Charlie’s interview and then watches this scene and is easily impressionable could make the assumption that they can take Truvada, get fucked by an HIV+ top, and consider themselves safe. Which is misleading.
Truvada as PrEP is an effective preventative. But it’s not 100%. And you have to take it every day at the same time every day for it to be effective. Miss one dose and your % of efficacy is greatly reduced.
PrEP has had many different studies but is also STILL in clinic trial stages.
The common wisdom is that when dosage is adhered to 100% of the time, the effectiveness of PrEP to prevent HIV infection is greater than 90%. But let’s play a game of math. If PrEP is 90% effective, than it’s 10% ineffective. So say a certain someone let’s their HiV+ partner cum inside them more than 10 times without a condom, statistically the chance of them getting infected at least one of those times is possible, even on PrEP.
So Truvada as PrEP is a great measure, but condoms is and always will be the most effective prophylaxis. Why not do both? We need to take care of each other and our community.
