Porn star Conner Habib discusses the concept of “porn names” in his latest essay on Buzzfeed, What’s In A (Porn) Name?. He also talks about the discrimination against porn stars, his porn name, and why he reveals HIS birth name, Andre Khalil.
I wish I had understood all this more deeply five years ago when I started appearing in porn; I might not have chosen a porn name at all. After all, the discrimination porn actors face stems in part from the separating of identities. And perhaps it would help end discrimination against and misunderstanding of porn stars if more performers expressed both their names publicly.
Conner told me he’s trying to end porn discrimination by revealing his birth name.

About discrimination: It is wider, why people used to watch porn in the dark small xxx-shops? Today mostly alone at home, and not talking about it publically? It is still a taboo in our society even though the largest part of internet is of course porn. Sexuality and sex are still sth we should not talk about and porn sth dirty, wrong, little like masturbation, everyone is doing it, but outside sex clubs, saunas etc. in private.

I agree, Olly. Black men are the most discriminated against in society, gay and straight. However, race have been he topic in the U.S. since the Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman verdict.

I never like to read too much of what Connor or Colby talk about because they can sometimes come across as know-it-alls yet they sometimes sound completely off, and this is definitely one of the cases.
I don’t know what type of discrimination he faced in his porn career, but if anything I think that having a name like Habib actually helped him rather than set him back.
I believe he gained a much larger audience and had a bigger porn career just for Habib alone. There’s rarely any Arabs, Muslims, or Middle Eastern men in porn, and I think Connor, with only that last name, was able to take advantage of that absence and was booked for a lot of studio time. I think Connor is hot and adorable, but by porn standards there are tons of guys that are way hotter and more physically fit than him. So clearly his last name Habib gave him an edge.
Funny thing is, he’s not fully Arab/Middle Eastern, and he’s half Irish.
