Well, consider this an early report of the “Gay Porn On Street” event in San Francisco, Folsom Street Fair 2012, because I believe most of the participants are still in recovery mode at the moment.

Why did it seem that EVERYONE was in leather gear? Was it the theme for 2012? Wasn’t anyone into something else? This is not a complaint, it just seemed odd that was everybody’s costume de jour.

I know I am going to take some shit here for my opinion, but as a gay man I just don’t get the point of this. To each his own, but taking this subculture to the public streets only perpetuates the stereotypes that the heterosexual community has of the gay community. Grown men in costumes, playing twister, and performing sex acts in public… this not how I want to be identified as a gay man. It is old school method, used to draw attention, but I think we have come further this than now.

@ Sam: The heterosexual community had worse stereotypes of gays back in the 50s when everyone had to be closeted than they do today. So I don’t think Folsom makes any difference. Besides, there are hetero street parties that are really explicit too like mardi gras. Folsom doesn’t say anything about gays in general anymore than Mardi Gras in NoLa or Carnival in Brazil says anything about hetero people in general.

@Sam Folsom Street Fair is not a “gay” event. It’s about BDSM and leather scene in general. There are plenty of pictures of naked women on the street. Kink.com also shoot many of their public sex (straight) scenes at the event too. I just don’t post them here.

Thanks for the explanation, QMN. I did think of that as a possibility, but didn’t see anything that indicated that. Never been to SF so I have no idea of the ins and outs of the scene there. It’s a bitch living in the middle of nowhere, community-wise.
